We Care We Love, Light up Cambodia
As one of the large energy enterprises in China, CHD, adhering to its mission of “Dedicate to Clean Energy, Create a Better Life” and based on its profound technological strengths, hardworking spirit and strong environmental awareness, has invested and constructed the Lower Stung Russei Chrum Hydropower Plant. CHD is also building a 700,000kW Coal Fired Power Plant Project in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, and is actively promoting wind power and photovoltaic projects, effectively alleviating the tense situation of Cambodia’s power supply, making important contributions to promoting local socio-economic development, and improving people’s livelihood. Over the years, CHD’s local projects have regularly carried out “Open Day” and “Social Responsibility Month” among other events to engage local stakeholders for better communication and exchange, making great contributions to Cambodia with clean and low-carbon energy and electricity, with mutual benefit and win-win growth through co-construction and sharing, and with a relationship of affinity and friendship.
Commitment and Love in Cambodia
The major part of the report consists of four sections, entitled: Angkor shares the light of friendship, Ecological light blooms along the Mekong River, Win-win cooperation brightens the light of development, Rice flower fragrance shows harmonious light. They present a comprehensive picture of CHD’s concrete achievements in Cambodia, through implementing sustainable development strategy and honoring its economic, environmental and social responsibilities. The three highlights of the report are:
1: Committed to building a paradigm of cooperation in Southeast Asia
As a world-class business, CHD does not flinch from its mission of leading sustainable development. CHD has unremittingly followed the “Going Global” strategy, implementing the UN 2030 sustainable development agenda through concrete actions. The report presents how CHD has over the years committed to investing in high quality construction projects in Cambodia and building a paradigm for Chinese businesses in international cooperation.
- Embrace local culture and cultivate rich cultural ground
The report highlights the profound and unique culture of Cambodia in both content and visual design. The chapters and sections are arranged according to Cambodia-specific elements. “Angkor shares the light of friendship” tells the story of how CHD won trust with high-quality projects and adherence to safety protocols. “Ecological light blooms along the Mekong River” tells the story of how CHD is firmly anchored in green development by insisting on environment-friendly principles throughout the projects. “Win-win cooperation brightens the light of development” tells the story on CHD’s principles of honesty and win-win cooperation by adhering to localized approaches, maintaining good communication and promoting mutually-beneficial cooperation. “Rice flower fragrance shows harmonious light” tells the story of CHD caring for the local people, fitting in local communities and creating harmony across the society.
- Use story telling to present the concept of responsibility
At the end of each chapter, there is a section called “Love in Cambodia”, where true stories are told about CHD in Cambodia, including Chinese employees stationed in Cambodia for as long as 8 years, female Cambodian employees locally hired, and local suppliers in long-term cooperation with CHD during construction. It is through these details, fresh and alive, that the bigger story of CHD is told.
Light up the future
In 2020, starting in Cambodia, CHD launched a global cross-cultural integration program — Light Up the Future. The program focuses on the 17 UN sustainable development goals with a special emphasis on promoting local quality education. In April 2020, Light Up the Future – CHD library online (http://www.chd.com.cn/library) had witnessed its grand opening in Cambodia. Since then, the library has been showcasing a rich reservoir of content online, including videos, picture books about outbreak prevention, STEAM experiments and other extracurricular materials. The content was designed for Cambodian children aged 5-16 to spread much needed knowledge to equip them in the fight against COVID-19 and to enable them to learn things online. In addition, Light Up the Future also portrays a series of events to convey innovative, green, open and sharing values and to promote a more peaceful co-existence between man and nature.
In “Light Up Cambodia, Light Up the Future”, a country campaign video released in late November, a local Cambodian employee tells the story of how CHD has contributed to local power supply, community environment and local employment in recent years, showcasing CHD’s determination to integrate and serve. Looking into the future, CHD will continue its commitment to countries like Cambodia, with clean and convenient electricity, sincere and honest communication, and the dedication to building a better tomorrow for the local people.
China Huadian will continuously engage in international energy cooperation, enhance the sustainability reports by countries and issues, and further raise CHD’s brand image as a responsible energy enterprise dedicated to transparent operations and effective public communication.
