The Ministry of Tourism has provided adventure tour management skills to Kampong Speu’s tourism communities because the province is seen as an attractive tourism destination.
The Ministry’s tourism development department in cooperation with Kampong Speu’s provincial tourism department conducted a training course early this week on adventure tour management skills for 40 people in Taing Bompong tourism community in Oral district, where the most popular adventure tourism destination is currently Knong Phsar.
Knong Phsar Mountain is in Taing Bompong village, Tasal commune, Oral district, in the province near the two provinces of Koh Kong and Pursat.
In the context of COVID-19, the Knong Phsar has become the most popular adventure tourism destination in the country.
Chuk Chhumnor, director of the Ministry’s tourism development department, who chaired the event said that the course was held to strengthen standards and manage the current popular adventure tours in the province as well as in the country after the destination attracted a boost in locals and foreigners.
“The pandemic has encouraged people to explore new tourism destinations such as adventure tours so the training course will provide adventure tour management skills for the local community to ensure security and guide tourists safely,” he said.
“We need to make Knong Phsar become the most popular adventure tour destination in the province to attract more and more visitors and then it will create jobs and revenue for the community.”
The government has approved the request by the Ministry of Economy and Finance to formally set a five-day national holiday from Aug 17 to 21 to make up for the Khmer New Year holiday in April that was postponed
