Raintree and She Loves Tech, co-organisers of the Kingdom’s first edition of the world’s largest startup competition for women and technology, have announced the winner of She Loves Tech Cambodia 2020 during a virtual awards ceremony.
The winner was Smart Farm Assistance an agricultural tech startup that innovates technology, focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT) for smarter farm management and data analysis to solve agricultural problems.
Current product provision includes smart irrigation tools, using IoT devices that enable farmers to remotely activate, time, and manage water flows to their crops through a mobile application.
Runners up for the award were Peth Yoeung (a cloud-based hospital management system) and DataU Academy (Cambodia’s first data science academy).
As the first-place winner, Smart Farm Assistance will now represent Cambodia at the global final in November and compete against 29 other finalists from across North and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia for a cash prize of $15,000.
The awards are designed to accelerate Cambodia’s most-promising startups to create a global impact. This initiative was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Posts and Telecom munications, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Khmer Enterprise and the Global Shapers Phnom Penh Hub.
“With only 20 percent of tech founders in Cambodia being women, there is no time to waste when it comes to driving the advancement of women
in technology here,” said Penhleak Chan, community manager of Raintree and co-author of the Startup Kingdom report.
“Despite the impact of COVID-19, Raintree worked with our partners nationally and internationally to launch this competition in our growing efforts to catalyse Cambodia’s burgeoning tech startup landscape, as well as to improve the representation of women across sectors,” she added.
