Cambodia’s fisheries has registered marginal growth in exports and this figure has potentials of further growth as the country prepares to export fisheries produce to China in 2022.
Ung Try, Deputy Director of Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said that up to now, exports of fresh fish and processed fishery products to foreign markets had a total volume of more than 3,320 tons, equivalent to a total value of more than $4.2 million.
“Currently, the export of fishery products is not very extensive, and is only to surrounding countries and Singapore,” he said. He called on the people to help protect and preserve the fishery resources, especially deforestation, flooded forest land and mangroves and to cease using fish traps to increase local stocks.
“As a strategy of the Fisheries Administration, we hope that next year we will increase aquaculture produce to exceed last year because as the population grows, the lakes became smaller, and as such, we are working hard to stabilize the harvest of natural fasieries,” he said. Rasmei News
