Cambodia is expected to become the biggest cashew producer in the world by surpassing the Ivory Coast, said Prime Minister Hun Sen at the official opening ceremony of the 7th River Festival in Stung Sen city, Kampong Thom province Thursday.
Cambodia produces up to 1,180,000 tonnes of cashew nuts on a total land area of some 700,000 hectares across the country, he pointed out.
With enough processing facilities, the cashew growing area would increase to 1 million, the Premier added.
Cambodia will become the top cashew supplier in the world, Hun Sen affirmed, underlining that we can supply local tourism and export.
In January 2023, the Kingdom approved a draft National Policy on Cashew Nuts 2022-2027, reconfirming its commitment to turn itself into a major cashew producer and supplier in the local, regional and global markets. AKP-C.Nika
