K (Cambodia) Co Ltd, a dealer to distribute ISUZU brand vehicles in Cambodia, plans to establish an ISUZU vehicle assembly plant in Kampong Speu province, according to the Kampong Speu Provincial Administration.
The investment project has been proposed by local investors and the process of the infrastructure of the factory is still needed, said Kampong Speu provincial governor Vei Samnang.
Samnang declined to provide more information related to the vehicle assembly factory investment project.
“We have received a proposal for the investment project. They are processing it,” he said. “I can’t tell the location of the factory due to any land price in the area nearby getting high after the factory project was announced,” Samnang said.
Sok Phea, deputy governor of Kampong Speu province, wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday: “IZUZU, a Japanese car brand, has chosen Kampong Speu as the site of its assembly plant, which is scheduled to be available in Kampong Speu by the end of 2022.”
Neither the Facebook page of K (Cambodia) Co Ltd nor its website posted information of the investment project.
According to Samnang, the assembled vehicles will be supplied to local markets due to economic growth and people earning higher incomes, which leads to use of the new vehicles and some for export.
There are plenty of investment projects announced in Cambodia, particularly in Kampong Speu province, due to investors having confidence in Cambodia and its economic growth, Samnang said.
“Kampong Speu province is in a good location near to both Phnom Penh and the seaport, which is easy for transport for factories so the province receives investment projects,” Samnang said.
Lim Heng, vice-president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said yesterday that he welcomed the investment projects.
“The new investments come at a time when Cambodia has been fully reopened, as well as investment incentives in the new investment law and the wider markets under the FTA with China and RCEP,” Heng said.
In September 2021, RMA (Cambodia), an authorised auto distributor in the Kingdom, started to build a $21 million Ford vehicle assembly plant in Pursat province, aimed at meeting the demand for new cars in the local market.
K (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. is a dealer to distribute ISUZU brand vehicles, including ISUZU D-MAX Pick Up, ISUZU mu-X SUV and Light-Heavy Duty Trucks in Cambodia.
